Something very close to my heart is all the adventure racing, trail, road & ultra-distance running (as well as a little team triathlon) I have done over the years. The below piece describes the three-day trail event called AfricanX, which was held for several years running in the trails above and surrounding Grabouw, Hermanus, Kleinmond and Betty's Bay. As for the Cape Odyssey, a five-day trail event beginning in Hermanus and ending in Franschhoek, I teamed up for AfricanX with fellow runner and Knysna-based sheep farmer, Herman Botha. I was editor of the RISK AFRICA print magazine, app and events supplements from December 2017 until May 2018, following the capable editorship of Sven Hugo.  Content written, curated and commissioned was aimed at the insurance market, particularly brokers, in an attempt to assist them with the reasons their clients should be insuring things – cars, art works, lives, estates and so on. During this time, we faced one of the most severe droughts in living history within the Western Cape province of South Africa, and hosted an event for Insurance and Tourism at the River Club, Cape Town, in order for these two economic sectors to effectively collaborate.
